is a Hong Kong born composer, pianist, and theorist. His recent music is refined by the interweaving of post-minimalist and modernist traits; subtle transformation of various musical parameters in different suspended times and spaces is one of the important underlying principles in his recent works. As a prolific composer, his nearly two hundred compositions encompass a spectrum from instrumental and vocal works to chamber opera, choral works, and symphonies. Globally recognized, his works have been showcased in more than 20 countries with 50 cities throughout the North and South America, Europe, and Asia, gracing stages at prominent venues and events such as the Musikverein (Wien), 2022 Contrasts International Contemporary Music Festival; International esteem ensembles like Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Uzhgorod Philharmonic with chorus, Opera Hong Kong Chorus, have premiered his works. His scores are exclusively published by Donemus (Netherland) and Universal Edition (Wien). Most of his recordings are exclusively available at Donemus Records, and other labels include Phasma Music, Ablaze, Albany. Besides his compositional outputs, his theory papers were presented at various international music theory conferences in Serbia, Poland, and UK as well as published in scholarly book and music journals. Since 2007 he has received various awards and honors from different organizations including "Muzyczne Orły" International Competition (Poland), Vienna International Music Competition (First Great Award), etc. Notably, his orchestral piece "Unravelling" was awarded Gold Medal (Awards of Excellence) in two categories-Best Contemporary Classical and Composition of the 2022 Global Music Awards. Yu received his early formal musical training at early ages, he completed his Bachelor of Music at Baylor University and later in 2010, he earned a Ph.D. in composition and music theory with the support of a full postgraduate research assistantship at Hong Kong Baptist University. He also holds FTCL in composition, LRSM in piano as well as Super Soloist Performance Zertifikat in piano from Wiener Musik Prüfungskommission.

Zudem konnte er durch ein Stipendium bei der Internationalen Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg und einem gesponserten Aufenthalt in Darmstadt bei den Internationalen Ferienkursen für Neue Musik seine Kompositionsstudien ausweiten. Im Anschluss hat er an der Baptist Universität Hongkong in Komposition und Musiktheorie promoviert. Yu hat mehr als hundert Werke für verschiedenste Besetzungen komponiert. Viele seiner Werke wurden bei internationalen Festivals und Konzerten in Nord- und Südamerika sowie Europa und Asien uraufgeführt; u. a. beim "Kyiv Music Fest", dem "Two Days and Two Nights of New Music" in der Philharmonie Odessa und dem "International Spring Orchestre Festival" am Manoel Theater. Yus Musik wurde von vielen internationalen und regionalen Orchestern, Ensembles und Chören gespielt, darunter die Uschhoroder Philharmoniker, die Chmelnyzkyjer Philharmoniker, die Czernowitzer Philharmoniker, die Luhansker Philharmoniker, der Chor der Hongkonger Oper, die "Choral Fellows" des Chors der Harvard Universität, das Equinox Trio, MusicOrba und das Hongkonger Kammerorchester. Seine Musik wird u. a. von Albany Records (USA), der Edizioni Sconfinarte (Italien), dem Helm & Bayonv Verlag (Deutschland) und der Zimbel Press publiziert. Er hat außerdem Ehrungen und Preise von Organisationen wie der ASCAP, dem Sir Edward Youde Memorial Council und dem Kulturinstitut Macau sowie beim Wettbewerb der amerikanischen National Flute Association erhalten. Seine musiktheoretischen Arbeiten wurden bei zahlreichen internationalen Konferenzen präsentiert und in Journals und wissenschaftlichen Sammelbänden veröffentlicht. Donald Man-Ching Yu ist zudem als Pianist und Dirigent aktiv und seit 2012 als Dozent am Hong Kong Institute of Education tätig.
