Ulrich Pletscher was born November 23 in 1974. He is both finnish and swiss citizen. The earliest memories he has of getting in touch with music is when he was about 7 years old and began to imitate melodies he had heard somewhere on the radio or elsewhere on his recorder. By the age of 10 he began to play the clarinet. Finally at the age of 18 he discovered the saxophone. He was overwhelmed by the freedom of speech this instrument offers its player and still is. He studied at the jazz school Basel on tenorsaxophone, multimedia at the academy of music and theatre in Berne, and music at the academy of music Basel, departement jazz on tenorsaxophone where he obtained diploma in pedagogics and performance. Since 1998 he is a freelancer as musician, composer and saxophoneteacher. Since 2003 he attends lessons in classical Indian music by Hariprasad Chaurasia.

Er studierte Musikwissenschaften in Zürich, Multimedia an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Bern, und anschliessend Musik an der Hochschule für Musik in Basel, Abteilung Jazz, mit Hauptfach Tenorsaxophon. Heute lebt und arbeitet Ulrich Pletscher als freier Musiker, Komponist, Produzent und Lehrer in Basel. Er pflegt die musikalische Zusammenarbeit in verschiedenen Formationen, unter anderem mit Lisette Spinnler, Oliver Friedli, Michael Stulz, Chasper Wanner, Jaro Milko, Pascal Grünenfelder, Fanny Anderegg und Adrian Mears. Aktuelle Formationen sind die »prekmurski kavbojci« (www.p-k.info) und »Schall und Rauchlaquo; (www.schall-und-rauch.ch) mit dem Vibraphonisten Martin Medjimorec. Seit September 2003 leitet er in Zusammenarbeit mit seinem Bruder Robert Pletscher das Aufnamestudio "Pletscher Project Studio". Zudem produziert er Samples für das Soundkollektiv Ojoo (www.ojoo.com).
